Ko Samui
"The Island Sucker" is definitely the place more attractive tourist resort of the South China Sea. On a total extension of approximately 250 sq km (roughly the size of the island of Elba), the beaches and seaside resorts most frequented are concentrated on the east side and are known as Haat Chaweng and Lamai Haat. The first, especially in the last decade has seen a rather important development of facilities and vast size, although a fair and accurate local law prohibits construction on the island of more than 12 meters in height. In the popular imagination this law has been taken with a significance particularly impressive, so much so that they love to say that "in Samui buildings may not exceed the height of coconut trees." We queued ideally this romantic interpretation, with the hope that in future years to keep Samui that character very exotic and tropical now unfortunately no longer belonging to other equally famous beach resort of Thailand. In fact, arriving by air, even Samui is shown as a green spot and see the hotels, the resorts and the buildings need to focus our gaze beyond the vegetation. The island is the largest producer of coconut in Thailand and "Chao Ko", ie the milk with coconut of Samui, is considered the most valuable name and warranty. As a result the island, especially in central and northern part, looks like a huge and endless expanse of palm trees. If the resorts of international character are concentrated almost exclusively in Chaweng Beach, the island is still to be discovered. It will be enough to rent a scooter and go freely to the exploration of its hidden coves and its rich interior landscapes of mountains, hiking trails, waterfalls and picturesque rural landscapes and old fishing villages with wooden houses . The most luxurious resorts in absolute but not found in Chaweng. For their locations have been chosen because some of these enchanted places and far from mass tourism and prying eyes. The Dusit Santiburi located on Maenam Beach, for example, to the north, the beach that you should definitely visit. The Meridien is instead Dtaling Ngam on the west side of the island and surrounded by a surreal landscape. The Thong Finally Say Bay is perched on the rocky coast of the homonymous bay of Thong Say, in the long promontory on the northeast side and which extends towards the open sea. Other beaches that you should not miss Chaeng Sun, not far from the same Thong Say, Chaweng Noi, south of Chaweng most noble, and a long series of beaches and bays that are located in the deep south of the island. The note, unfortunately, a little 'sorry but Samui is the sea. The strong sea currents fact raise the sandy bottom, creating poor visibility, particularly unsuitable for those wishing to explore the coral and underwater life. In some seasons of the year the sea is rough, leading to a lot of debris and dirt shore natural (branches, leaves, etc..) That makes the beaches are not particularly attractive (this problem exists roughly from November to May). In the case of a stay in the popular Chaweng is also good to do a lot of attention to the stretch of beach to find accommodation. The northern part of the same fact is adversely affected by the presence of Matlang island in front of it, a presence that creates the low-water conditions persisting with the seabed muddy and unsuitable for swimming. Unfortunately, other beaches on Samui are affected more or less sensible and permanent in the year of this unfavorable condition. During a vacation in Samui do not forget to visit the island of Ko Tan Day. It is located south of Samui and has a very interesting reef.
